ABOUT THE ROLE

Independent Project Analysis, Inc. (IPA) has an opening in our US office in Ashburn, VA, for a Research Analyst on the Sustainability team. Your primary focus will be on pathways to decarbonize energy intensive industries through electrification. In this role, you will work with a rapidly growing and entrepreneurial team, leveraging our expertise and unmatched data, to advise clients on their energy transition and sustainability improvement journey.

The Research Analyst focuses on developing analytical products and frameworks that support our benchmarking business as well as targeted research to help industrial clients. This role is primarily focused on creating new capabilities that drive the company forward and helping our clients navigate a changing world. As such, the Research Analyst plays a lead role in IPA’s innovation effort. This particular role’s focus will be on developing a deep knowledge of electrification technologies for industrial decarbonization and using that knowledge to further IPA’s offerings to industry.

IPA seeks a candidate for the Research Analyst position with strong analytical skills and intellectual curiosity who is looking to grow into an industry thought leader.

The general responsibilities of this role include:

  • Monitoring electrification technology and adoption readiness levels
  • Characterizing the technical risk associated with renewable power-based systems and industrial electrification technologies
  • Providing input to client technology development and management plans
  • Conducting qualitative and quantitative research and translating it into clear insights and recommendations
  • Developing reports and presentations, and delivering verbal (virtual or in-person) presentations to technical and business audiences
  • Acting as an internal thought partner in shaping and developing strategies for long-term growth

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, particularly power systems engineering, is required; a master’s degree is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience working in an engineering or operations group in the power, fuels, chemicals, or minerals industry

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position will involve approximately 10 to 15 percent travel.
