ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Economist focuses on developing analytical products that support our market intelligence business and targeted research to help clients across sectors (oil and gas, energy, minerals, infrastructure, chemicals, pharmaceutical, and consumer products) better understand the influence of market forces on their capital project portfolios. They are also tasked with supporting the creation of new products (e.g., applications) that drive the company forward and help our clients navigate a changing world. Independent Project Analysis, Inc. (IPA) is a company that values innovation, and our Senior Economist has a lead role this innovation effort.
IPA seeks candidates for the Senior Economist position with strong analytical skills and intellectual curiosity who are looking to contribute as a thought leader. The candidate’s interest in studying project practices that affect project outcomes is critical as is an ability to connect real life with the data and knowing when to ask more questions.
DAY IN THE LIFE
The general responsibilities of the Senior Economist role include
- Working on studies related to the capital projects industry, focusing on supply chain challenges
- Developing construction labor and material price forecasts
- Analyzing key components of the capital project supply chain to understand capacity constraints and their expected influence on lead times and prices
- Collaborating with cross-functional groups within IPA and working directly with clients to address their questions and needs
- Helping to shape new products for IPA’s market intelligence business
- Developing reports and presentations with insight and a customer focus
- Delivering verbal (including virtual delivery) feedback and presentation
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Senior Economist must have:
- Master’s or Ph.D. in economics, finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of experience in economic research or applied economics
- Strong expertise in econometrics and statistical modeling
- Proficiency in software such as Stata, R, Python, or similar tools for economic modeling
- Ability to translate complex economic data into actionable insights
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
