An Examination of Megaproject Construction Related Risks and Risk Mitigation Strategies
A major foreign oil corporation requested Independent Project Analysis (IPA) to examine the top construction-related risks for complex, offshore/onshore megaprojects.
IPA assembled a dataset of completed megaprojects similar in scope, size, and complexity to the company’s ongoing liquefied natural gas (LNG) project and reviewed the detailed history of each project to catalog construction-related incidents, as well as their causes, their effects, and the mitigation strategies used.
In addition, IPA provided a report that discusses key elements in the risk register by categorizing the incidents into themes and identifying the corresponding mitigation strategies. The client used this information to support its LNG project and future projects by developing action plans to mitigate risks during the construction phase.
