The Problem
An exploration & production (E&P) company approached IPA early in the definition phase of an offshore megaproject to identify location-specific risks the project would likely encounter during the execution phase.
IPA’s Solution
IPA generated a risk register using our proprietary database containing detailed information on megaprojects similar to the client’s project. The risk register consisted of over 100 incidents, and IPA organized into thematic categories such as quality assurance problems, procurement delays, design issues, and field labor. IPA provided analysis for each incident theme, based on detailed case histories for each project and related research, and quantified the effects of specific incidents on project outcomes.
Delivery and Client Use of the Results
The client used the regional risk register to develop detailed mitigation plans, including a number of historically-proven preventative strategies and tactics.
